Sometimes, holding yourself together is its own quiet act of courage.

She sits on the edge of breaking, tears gathering in her eyes as she gently reminds herself to hold on—to breathe, to keep going, to believe that somehow, things will be okay. Her hand covers her mouth, not to hide her pain, but to contain it. She is trying to steady herself long enough to take the next breath.

This painting is about those private moments when no one else knows how hard we are trying. The moments when we tell ourselves, “Just hold on. You can get through this.”

Yet beneath the tears, she is still there. Still trying. Still holding on.

I wanted to capture the quiet strength that can exist inside vulnerability—the kind that doesn’t look heroic, but simply refuses to give up.

Perhaps someone will see her and think, “She understands how I feel.” Perhaps they will remember a time when they held themselves together and realize, “I did pretty well. I made it through.”
